Vario
Trike with variable wheel width.
Vario is a concept vehicle consisting of two wheels in the front, and one in the back. The front wheels vary in gauge – when the Vario goes fast, the two wheels come together, allowing the Trike to handle turns like a motorcycle. In contrast, the wide placing of the wheels gives good stability during low speeds. This particular principle is patented by Variomotiv AS.

Central to the project was identifying and describing a suitable target group for the vehicle. This formed the constraints in terms of ergonomics, baggage volume, and aesthetics. The challenging goal was to create a vehicle based on the identity of the BMW – responding to the target group’s expectations regarding cars, and at the same time focusing on the characteristic qualities of the Trike.
