Timetravel
Light design in the worlds longest dual tube tunnel between Xian and Ankang in China.

In the heart of China the drivers meet a piece of Norway, under the ground! Light design from KADABRA keeps chinese drivers awake in the worlds longest dual tube tunnel.

In the almost 20 kilometers tunnel through Quinling Mountain, the drivers are met by 3 domes within the rock. In the same way as the Lærdal tunnel in Norway, these are there to break the monotony of the drive, preventing drivers from falling asleep behind the wheel.
In addition, the rooms should prevent fear of tunnels, and increase the drivers feeling of comfort. These factors increases the safety of the tunnel.

The starting point for the concept “Time travel” is the acceleration of time that takes place in a tunnel – what used to be a 24 hour trip now takes only 15 minutes! Using light effects, the drivers go through an accelerated sunrise, day, sunset and night, before they reappear on the other side of the mountain. We wished to connect the
light in the tunnel with the outside light as you go into the tunnel.
The sequence of the lit domes is therefore different depending on the time of day – in the daytime you will get the sunset - night – sunrise, whereas the sequence during night will be sunrise - day - sunset.
