New Index

Design and prototyping of an interactive whiteboard.
New Index AS started their activities in January 2004. The name is an abbreviation of New Interaction Devices and Technologies.

New Index’ vision is making intuitive and simple tools for interaction between people and computers. New Index is currently developing an interactive white board for use in teaching and meeting activities.

The technology consists of a camera and a pen. The camera can be integrated in a projector. When the pen moves across the projected image, the camera reads the

position of the pen and translates it to input for the computer -  thereby permitting the user to draw, write or interact in other ways on the projected image.

The system makes it possible for several users to work together on the same white board or table, for example in a meeting or during a brainstorm.

In the future, this technology can also be used with interactive table surfaces. With a projector mounted beneath the table and a New Index pen, a translucent table is transformed into an interactive desktop.
